The University of Sunderland is a public research university located in Sunderland in the North East of England. Its predecessor, Sunderland Technical College, was established as a municipal training college in 1901. It is world-leading in several areas of research, including pharmacy, engineering, sports and exercise sciences, education, and social work. It was the first educational institution in the area to install a digital computer.
